Shepherds on the way
The scene highlights the prerogative of the Neapolitan nativity scene to represent a cross-section of the 18th century traditions and customs, through the attribution to the individual characters of a geographical and social connotation.
There are
two couples of wealthy peasants in particular, coming from the hinterland of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies with dark skin, which betrays the lower social background, dressed, however, in the typical costume of the festivity, in silk and colored ribbons.
